The Texas Hill Country is located west of Austin and northwest of San Antonio near the geographic center of Texas. Encompassing approximately 14,000 square miles, the area is known for its picturesque limstone hills, green canyons, and the crystal clear waters of rivers flowing through the region. Tourism is a major economic factor of the area, as the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country attracts visitors from all over the world. Outdoor activities include hiking, biking, rafting, bird-watching, rock climbing, spelunking, and fishing. Many country inns, guesthouses, ranches, and bed-and-breakfasts in the region, and are a great alternative to the hotels of Austin and San Antonio.
The Texas Hill Country consists of hot summers and mild winters. Rainfall is heaviest in the spring and fall. Due to its elevation, frost is common between November and March.
